A house built around 1900 on one of downtown Murfreesboro’s historic streets had been split into two rental units. Chambers turned it back into a single-family home, kept its original floors, beams and front door, and added a detached four-car garage.

About 1900
The house went up around the turn of the 20th century, a few blocks east of the courthouse square, on a street of homes from Murfreesboro’s early years.
Later
Like many large downtown houses, it was split into a duplex, a two-bedroom unit and a one-bedroom unit rented separately, and it was eventually sold as-is at auction.
2021
In late 2021 the house changed hands and Chambers set out to return it to what it was built to be: one family’s home.
The work
The original hardwood floors, beams and front door stayed. Behind them came a new four-bedroom layout, updated kitchen and baths, spray-foam insulation, and new siding, roof and porch. Out back, a new detached four-car garage.
2025
The finished house sold in 2025, a single-family home on East College Street once more.
